Hi, I’m Emma, a registered nutritionist specialising in digestive health.
Why digestive health? Because I know from experience the feeling of being doubled over in pain every evening. How it feels to look six months pregnant by the end of the day due to bloating. The misery of cutting all the foods I loved from my diet in the hope of identifying what was causing my symptoms. I felt that I was trapped in a body that was working against me. I was suspicious of everything I ate and drank in case that was ‘the thing’.
Trips to my GP gave me a label – IBS – but that was as much as they could do for me. They offered no further help or guidance. So I took matters into my own hands and began training as a nutritionist. On paper this was to enable a career change, but deep down I knew that I was looking for the answers to my questions. I was hoping to learn how to improve my own health.
Fast forward several years to today and I am no longer suffering from pain, bloating or discomfort. My deep understanding of our amazing digestive system and the various factors in play that cause IBS and other gut-related conditions means that my approach is no longer one of eliminating food groups. Instead I focus on healing the gut through simple food and lifestyle changes – increasing the variety of foods consumed rather than restricting them – having witnessed first hand what a powerful tool nutrition can be.
It now brings me great pleasure to help other women suffering from long-standing digestive issues. Together we work to understand what is causing their problems and help them rediscover the joy of eating.
