A gentle start to the day

7 July 2020 //  by Emma

Starting each day with a slice of lemon in warm water is a calming wake up moment that I’ve come to look forward to. This simple yet effective addition to the morning routine gently wakes up the digestive system after its night of fasting, preparing it for breakfast and the demands of the day ahead. If you suffer from constipation, this is a particularly beneficial technique to stimulate your gut and improve hydration – if possible, leave a gap of thirty minutes before eating or drinking anything else to take full advantage of its effects.

I find the process of cutting the lemon, warming the water and drinking it from my favourite mug (ideally all before the rest of the house is awake) to be a moment of calm before the day begins. It allows me time to compose myself, take some deep breaths, and prepare for the day ahead.

I’d love to know if you choose to start your day the same way. What is your early morning drink of choice?
